Monthly Local and House Singings

The best way of learning about this type of music is to experience it first hand. This can be done either at regular singing days organised around the country, or by going to local singing groups, usually held monthly and quite often in people's houses. Usually informal, these are a great way to learn or 'workshop' new pieces, and are open to anyone who would like to attend. Some have their own websites.

NB:  The MSN maps currently available do not give a great deal of detail, thus the Google or the Multimap references are preferable.

The Fairview Sacred Harp Singers generally meet on the first Friday in every month at 176 Fairview Road, Stevenage, SG1 2NE, courtesy of Steve and Mary Welch. From about 7.30 pm to 10 pm. All voices welcome, loaner copies of the Sacred Harp provided.

The Newcastle Sacred Harp Singers generally meet on the last Tuesday in every month, from 7.30 pm at the Education Centre, St Oswald’s Hospice, Regent Avenue, Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne NE3 1EE

The Oxford Occasionals sing regularly once a month from the 1991 Sacred Harp, at 30 Eynsham Road, Botley, Oxford, OX2 9BP, on the "Teenth" Thursday - that's right, there is only one such Thursday every month! - at 7.45 pm.

The Yorkshire and Transpennine Sacred Harp Singing takes place on the third Friday in every month, based either in Elland, Holmfirth, Sheffield or in Oldham, from 7.30 pm to 10.00 pm.
